It is customary during the month of Elul to get your “spiritual” affairs in order, in preparation for the Days of Awe (Rosh Hashanah, The Ten Days of Shuva and Yom Kippur).

While there are many obligations and customs during this period, one that has been with us since our days before the Diaspora is the visiting of the graves of our parents, loved ones and tzaddikim (great sages) of Judaism. As it is stated in the Kitzur Shulchan Aruch, “it is customary to make these visits, give charity in their memory, and to pray for Hashem to have mercy on you during this time of judgment, for the sake of those who have passed before you and now rest in the dust.

One of the great travesties is that many of us have challenges that prevent us from participating in this custom. This is where Star of David Bikers can help. During the month of Elul a minion of riders will act as your Shaliach (agent) and make this visit and recite the prayers and Kaddish on your behalf. During the month of Elul on Sunday mornings our riders will visit up to 10 cemeteries in the Philadelphia Metro Area. Our minion will read the name of your departed one and offer the recitations as appropriate.

Further, if you are able to make a donation, a portion of the monies received will be donated to the Philadelphia Jewish Federation in memory of your loved one.
